Call to Renewal Goes Out to West
Jersey Churches
In January the session sent the Call to Renewal to all
the churches in West Jersey Presbytery and to denominational
officials. The session resolution, adopted in October 2006,
addresses the struggles to maintain practices and beliefs
within the Presbyterian Church (USA) that are consistent
with historic Christian standards.
The session’s intention in sending the Call to Renewal
to other churches was to inform them of our church’s
response to denominational concerns and to enlist a similar
stance from other churches. The document was also sent
to the executives of West Jersey Presbytery and the General
Assembly.
The heart of the session’s resolution is the belief
that renewal of faith is an ongoing facet of the Holy Spirit’s
work in all churches and in every era. We recognize that
the renewing work of the Spirit is needed in Faith Church
as well, though the more extreme instances of departure
from biblical standards are in evidence elsewhere in the
denomination. The session attempted to express its strong
conviction with an appropriate measure of humility and
a determination to seek the solution in God’s restorative
work.
The Call to Renewal was published
in the November Seeds of Faith. Print copies are available
in the Welcome Center, and the document may be viewed
